What Does Happy Festivus Mean?

There are several holidays celebrated across the world throughout the year. While many are so popular that they are celebrated in most countries of the world, there are some that are not too popular and are celebrated by few who understand the story behind them and their significance. Depending on where you live, chances are you have heard “Happy Festivus.”

What does happy Festivus really mean? If you decide to check in a conventional dictionary, it is unlikely that you will find the word Festivus. This is because the holiday is known only among a few people, especially those who are familiar with the television show “Seinfeld.” Thanks to the season 9 episode “Strike,” which aired on December 18, 1997, the holiday has been celebrated on December 23, every year.

Festivus was invented by fictional character Frank Costanza (played by Jerry Stiller,) who was frustrated with the commercial and religious aspects of the Christmas season. Essentially, Festivus is an anti-Christmas holiday. The goal was to condemn the commercialization of Christmas and use the opportunity to share his grievances with the world and those around him, creating a “Festivus for the rest-of-us!”

Owing to the continued popularity of the show, people have made Festivus a tradition each year. The internet has played an important role in spreading awareness of the holiday. Going online on December 23, it is likely that you will find many people celebrating Festivus. There are no such things as an exchange of gifts as Frank started the holiday as a way to discourage the extravagance associated with Christmas. In place of a decorated Christmas tree, an aluminum Festivus Pole is set up. Also, make sure that you air your problems with the people around you so that you can start the new year fresh.

Happy Festivus is the wish you get during the celebration of the anti-Christmas holiday on December 23 every year. We hope you are adequately informed about the holiday and how best to celebrate it each year.
